SDG #14 - Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Imagine if...

collectively, we could reduce the harmful impact of pollution and exploitation of our marine and coastal ecosystems.

Meet Sustainable Development Goal 14

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Why this cause needs your support

The world’s oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents, and life – supports systems that make the Earth habitable for people everywhere. More than 3 billion people around the world are reliant on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods, yet we have taken advantage of the world’s water resources.

Since the industrial...

The need is now

3 billion

people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods.

The goal of this fund is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.

To accomplish this goal, this Fund is supporting the following strategies

Reduce Harm

Water resources around the world have been affected by pollution and illegal or unethical fishing practices. People and policy both need to work in tandem to clean up oceans, lakes, and other marine and coastal ecosystems.

Supporting some of the best organizations

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California who were concerned about threats to their local break, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 80 grassroots chapters worldwide.

We can save the oceans and feed the world. Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation. We run science-based campaigns and seek to win policy victories that can restore ocean biodiversity and ensure that the oceans are abundant and can feed hundreds of millions of people. Oceana victories have already helped to create policies that could increase fish populations in its countries by as much as 40 percent and that have protected more than 1 million square miles of ocean. We have campaign offices in the countries that control close to 25 percent of the world's wild fish catch, including in North, South and Central America, Asia, and Europe.

Our goal is to improve the degraded water quality of the marine waters off the New Jersey/New York coast. Clean Ocean Action will identify the sources of pollution and mount an attack on each source by using research, public education, and citizen action to convince our public officials to enact and enforce measures which will clean up and protect our ocean.

The Center for Coastal Studies conducts scientific research with emphasis on marine mammals of the western North Atlantic and on the coastal and marine habitats and resources of the Gulf of Maine. We promote stewardship of coastal and marine ecosystems and conduct educational activities that encourage responsible use and conservation. We collaborate with other institutions and individuals whenever possible to advance our mission.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
