American National Red Cross

There are at least 77 large complexes of wildfires burning in 15 states across the country, with almost a third of them in California. Estimates are that over 45 million people remain under some sort of heat warning or advisory, and no reprieve from the record heat is expected until the weekend. California Governor, Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide emergency, as we continued to battle over 35 fires happening across the state, dozens of which are burning nearly in every Bay Area county as of this morning. The magnitude and spread of these fires has pushed Cal Fire to group them into specific territories. Red Cross teams across affected areas are working to activate disaster workers and response plans.
